We picked this izakaya because of the previous reviews and are very pleased we did. The host was very friendly, attentive and welcoming and helped us understand how to order. She was keen to make sure we had a good time and found sake we enjoyed using an easy card system in English as we speak virtually no Japanese. The food and the sake were excellent and very good value for money and we felt like valued customers the whole time. I would highly recommend this izakaya (which is up some stairs from the street, look out for the writing on the stairs themselves) and would definitely visit again in the future.

Our last night in Japan we wanted to have an izakaya for the sake and diverse dishes. We found Ponshuya near our hotel (torrential rains). We were pleasantly surprised to find they had an English menu and that the waitress could speak some English because everyone in the izakaya were locals. We ordered 6 dishes and they were all really delicious---our favorite was the grilled miso pork and the spicy mince meat udon. The grilled ostrich is a unique dish and served with a lovely onion sauce. The service was very good, the waitress gave a great sake recommendation and we had a nice chat with her. The chef was very nice and he served many of our dishes personally.

Great fusion food that you can pair with a great selection of Japanese wine and sake. This coupled with friendly and helpful staff (that speaks English) makes it an excellent choice for gatherings or just a night out. I was told that this place serves one of the best selections of Sake in Tokyo. Food is excellent too. The only downside is that the place is not easy to find. As such I have posted some photos of this place which hopefully will help readers find the place easier. Note: When you reach this area, look for the Yellow Parking Signboard (there's only two there).
